The lame duck and the cornered dog

“You’d better watch out, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why…” A big Bule Wave has come and accountability is on the way.

Despite the antics of North Carolina Legislators who have gerrymandered North Carolina house by house ans street by street, the voters spoke clearly.

Lawmakers tried to dissect blue districts. They tried to disenfranchise voters of color. Voter Identification is mandatory. Soon we will need to present passports, marriage licenses, and birth certificates. It would not be surprising to install iris identification machines or have on site fingerprinting.

MAGA world has spun out of control. The Blue Wave has struck. Trump supporters squirmed to defend their claims about how great the economy is and how well the war was going. If it weren’t so tragic, it would be comic.

Our Stable Genius President was more concerned with ballrooms, arches and reflection pools than caring about us little people and the increasing hardships of high gasoline and grocery prices. He is a master at changing the subject.

The lame Duck has two more years in office. He says he will work with the Democrats. We will believe that when we see it. Trump’s primary Modis operandi is deny, deflect, and lie. He told us to vote like he was on the ballot, then when he lost “bigly” he said it was because he wasn’t on the ballot. What will he do to cover up the mess he has made as president.

He is the cornered dog. Teeth are bared. His barking will be loud. We will see if he remains in a crouched position, striking at the usual targets - media, immigrants, women, people of color. For years Trump has sounded like a broken record. He’s never had original thoughts. He has taken credit for anything good and trashed anything that is threatening. His back is arched and when he is awake, he is reckless and dangerous.

It’s sad to see Trump calling Kaitlan Collins “a nasty woman.” That’s what he calls every woman who asks a tough question or pushes on his fragile ego.

If he had surrounded himself with capable people, like some who were around him in the first term, he might have gotten through this term without incident.

He squirrelled that, appointing people like Kristi Noem, Todd Blanche, Robert F. Kennedy and the ever-popular Pete Hegseth. Good grief? What could go wrong?

J.D. Vance is a chameleon. From his hillbilly roots, he has risen to his point of incompetence. He is The Peter Principlepersonified. He is not likeable, not trustworthy, and not ever going to be president, unless Trump resigns or dies in office. Say “bye, bye, J.D.”

It remains to be seen if democracy can be repaired after the onslaught of incompetence and the dereliction of duty of the Trump Administration. It is criminal. And it will not be forgotten. Trump will be lucky if it is forgiven.

We have lived into a huge responsibility to create change. We continue to have a moral imperative to speak truth to power.

A reader wrote me that I have Trump Derangement Syndrome. My response is that I will keep writing and speaking into the destruction, corruption, sloppiness, messiness and wrong of the Trump Administration until Trump is gone…like those guys with dustpans and brooms who walk behind the horses in a parade.

Trump can still do a lot of harm in his final two years, but he can’t put all of us in jail. He can’t send ICE to every door in America. Turns out, he is not as strong and tough as he thinks.

He is a blustering coward, afraid and alone. He has no good ideas and nowhere to go. It will be interesting to see how he manages himself without the permissiveness of the House or the Senate

The times in which we live are changing. Let us hope they have changed for good.
