Trump Needs A Little Help

Running up the red flag, warning about stolen elections, back in July Trump announced the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had identified 270,000 people illegally registered to vote in four states.

Nevada, one of the states, asked for the list.

DHS said it had found 16,000 illegal voters in Nevada then, hedging, added the word ‘possibly.’ DHS only sent Nevada a list of 185 voters it said were illegally registered.

Nevada rolled up its sleeves, went to work, wrote DHS back that all 185 of those voters were American citizens. Each one had a right to vote. Asked DHS for the list of 16,000 people.

DHS didn’t send the list.

Now, to be fair, President Trump probably never saw even one of those lists: The 270,000, 16,000, or 185. Talking to him somebody spun a tale – which he repeated.

So who told him?

The most likely suspect is Stephen Miller – he works in the White House, posts a lot on social media about stolen votes, Trump picked him to oversee the Department of Homeland Security.

As a showman Trump’s in a league of his own – as president he has billions to spend on staff, the power to hire whoever he wants. But it looks like – when it comes to stolen votes – he built a shaky team that spun a tale and, naturally, when folks see fumbles like that it leaves them shaking their heads, wondering what happens next.

President Trump doesn’t run DHS. But he picked the people who do. And, it looks like when it comes to choosing the right people, he needs a little help.
