Trump’s ratings lift Democrats

The best thing going for Democrats this year is Donald Trump’s abysmal approval rating with voters.

Unfortunately, Democrats’ ratings are dismal, too.

In our statewide poll this summer, only 37% of voters gave Trump a favorable rating. His unfavorable rating was 57%.

But Democrats didn’t do much better. Only 33% of voters gave the Democratic Party a favorable rating; 53% had an unfavorable view of the party.

That’s why Trump’s troubles don’t necessarily translate to big Democratic wins this year.

Election Day is less than seven weeks away, and the small number of swing voters who will decide the outcome have barely begun to tune in.

As they do, they’ll see a flood of ads attacking Democrats - backed by hundreds of millions of dollars from Trump, his billionaire buddies and their dark-money groups.

Races - like Roy Cooper’s for Senate - will be decided by just a few points.

Don’t get swept away by “blue wave” talk.

We’ve got a lot of rough water to cross first
