It's no joke

I have compassion for those who suffer with serious mental disorders…as long as none of them are ever elected president.

Please allow me to explain. Having a mental disorder does not mean you are automatically a bad person in and of itself. To the contrary. It just means you’re somehow detached from general reality, and are not able to process that reality in normal fashion like the rest of us.

It’s not your fault, the medical experts tell us. And I agree, in all but one current infamous exception.

Donald J. Trump.

A year ago, Dr. John D. Gartner, a well-known practicing psychologist with over thirty years experience, who hails from Johns Hopkins University, observed that in his opinion, Trump’s behavior “…suffers from three distinct mental disorders - malignant narcissistic personality disorder, hyper manic temperament, and dementia.”

Gee Doc, only three?

Gartner’s informed observation further added that "[Trump's mental disorder] consists of four components -  narcissism, paranoia, psychopathy and sadism.” People like Trump live and breathe rage; if they're not being adored, they seek to destroy and inflict pain on anyone who won't worship them."

If you know Trump’s history, and his thirst for power and recognition, he’s been that way his entire life. It’s just gotten worse now in his later years.

In fact, Dr. Gartner said, "I believe that he's showing unquestionable signs of dementia, and that's the diagnosis. We have over 500 signatures from licensed mental health professionals on a petition asking for Trump's removal.”

Mind you, all of the above was Dr. Gartner’s opinion in 2024 BEFORE Trump was reelected. Prior to writing a word of this, I researched the published record on Gartner’s claims about Trump.

In July 2017 during Trump's first term in office, this from a conference at Yale University School of Medicine: “Donald Trump has a “dangerous mental illness” and is not fit to lead the US," a group of psychiatrists has warned…” reported the British paper The Independent, later adding, “Mental health experts claimed the President was “paranoid and delusional”, and said it was their “ethical responsibility” to warn the American public about the “dangers” Mr Trump’s psychological state poses to the country.”

Dr. Gartner was one of those speakers at that Yale School of Medicine confab.

Then in August 2017, Psychology Today reported, “The group 'Duty to Warn,' founded by influential psychotherapist Dr. John Gartner, has gathered nearly 60,000 signatures on a petition calling for the removal of Donald Trump from office due to "serious mental illness that renders him psychologically incapable of competently discharging the duties of President of the United States."

Now to be forthcoming, apparently there were ethical restrictions on mental health professionals publicly commenting on the mental health of public officials, especially those they hadn’t personally examined, called the “Goldwater Rule.” But apparently those restrictions have been relaxed as long as what’s stated is not an “ official diagnosis.”

Clearly, what was stated then, and what's being said now about Donald Trump, is right on the money!

So why is any of this relevant?

Because the evidence is compounding hour-by-hour, if not day-by-day, that patient Trump’s mental state is getting worse, minute by the minute.

I truly wish this was only about partisan policy differences and a politician with a bad disposition. At least then you know that you’re dealing with someone who has common sense, but simply just refuses to use it .

No, ladies and gentlemen. The evidence, again, is very clear. Donald J. Trump mentally is, one, most likely two, tacos shy of a combination plate.

This business of the White House, obviously on his order, tweeting out a blasphemous A-I picture of Trump as the next pope. Just what kind of extreme sickness is in charge in that demented mind? This proves that Trump is unfit to even be unfit!

Even former Fox News pundit Bill O’Reilly - no paragon of virtuous behavior himself - calls what Trump did “just dopey!”

It was a helluva a lot more than that, Bill.

It would be one thing if the much beloved Pope Francis hadn’t passed away recently. The crazy A-I photo still would have been very wrong, but at worst, it would have only been embarrassing and insulting.

But the Holy pontiff went on to be with his Father in Heaven less than a month ago. The papal conclave of bishops from across the world came together this week to select who the next leader of the Catholic faith will be. And they did so while still grieving their tremendous loss.

But this blue-suited mental case, who didn’t even have the decency to wear proper mourning attire when he attended the pope’s funeral, is now visually positing himself as a worthy successor, even in jest, as some of his supporters have ridiculously suggested.

For the record, Trump now says he knew nothing about his blasphemous A-I papal picture, though it was reposted to his Truth Social online account by the White House he runs, and defended by characters like J.D. Vance and Lindsay Graham.

And after getting burned by the controversy and claiming he had nothing to do with it, Trump classically shifted gears, and put the blame on the media for even reporting the story, faux complaining, “They can’t take a joke.”

This isn't a joke. This is mental illness of the highest order, because it comes with unchecked power! I sincerely join all of my brothers and sisters of faith, and particularly Catholics, in decrying this appalling and cold-blooded outrage!

Mocking a sacred man of GOD who has just passed on while Catholics the world over are still in mourning?

Just the extraordinary indecency of this outrageous episode is enough to convince anyone paying even the slightest attention that there’s something very, very wrong with this person. His view of the world, and his place in it, is as warped as the day is long.

What’s worst is this mentally corrupt person has seized virtually all reigns of American power, giving him the culpable validity that he answers to no one.

Asked recently in an interview about upholding and protecting the Constitution of the United States - something he raised his hand and swore to do for the second time just three months ago - the mental case who would be king AND pope replied “I don’t know.”

A person who believes (with a little help from his conservative majority U.S. Supreme Court) that he’s above the rule of law, is now claiming that upholding the Constitution of the United States really isn’t a responsibility for him, but his upcoming multi-million dollar military parade in honor of his 79th birthday in June, is.

And this is just the recent stuff. Add to that some of his greatest hits -  sitting back and drinking a Diet Coke in the White House while watching the U.S. Capitol being attacked on TV and doing nothing to stop it (because he started it); insisting that the 2020 presidential election be overturned just because he lost; and claiming that Haitians were "...eating the dogs and eating the cats..." in Ohio because of the color their skin, and we have an unmistakable pattern of mental madness for which the 25th Amendment - removing a president who is physically or mentally incapable of doing his job - was custom made for.

And we have no other legal mechanism for removing this senile sad sack from power because we can't trust anyone near him enough to use it properly.

So, for the immediate future at least, we have to put up with the determined madness of this nut job, in the form of crazy, middle of the night posts on Truth Social, and executive orders so outrageous, Saturday Night Livehad a hard time making fun of them last weekend.

Such madness includes directing the US Dept. of Justice to actually “defend and support” local police officers who are accused of misconduct on the job.

George Floyd is truly rolling over in his grave on that one.

Repealing proactive remedies to violations of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, so that acts of racial and gender discrimination are much easier now to get away with.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. is rolling along with George in his grave, too.

Nominating totally unqualified idiots like certified wacko Robert Kennedy Jr., Fox News weekend TV host Pete Hegseth, and daytime TV doctor Dr. Oz, to run critically important federal agencies of our government without a clue among them.

Allowing an unauthorized screws-loose billionaire who nobody voted for to run rampant, closing federal agencies down and putting thousands of decent federal employees out of work.

Hog-tying human beings and shipping them off to foreign countries without so much as a traffic court appearance, strongly hinting that American citizens are next.

Starting a ridiculous and ego driven tariff/trade war with the world that screws the U.S. economy and causes unnecessary pain for the average American consumer. “ I don’t think that a beautiful baby girl needs to have 30 dolls,” Trump says. “I think they can have three dolls or four dolls because what we were doing with China was just unbelievable!”

Hear that, America? Your baby girls have too many dolls. Betcha it’s Joe Biden’s fault.

Yanking hundreds of millions of dollars from elite universities and government agencies involved in vital scientific research that could improve the quality of life for all mankind.

Wanting to buy Canada and making it the 51st U.S. state (apparently the new Canadian prime minister declaratively replied to this with his middle digit, along with the customary verbal profanity, of course, when Trump broached the insane idea during their recent White House meeting).

And finally, the profound craziness of reopening the long closed maximum security prison on Alcatraz Island for God knows what reason, and still threatening to go guns ablazing to acquire Greenland.

This is all pure insanity, folks, and the scary part about it is we’ve so gotten used to it coming from Trump, which is NOT normal for us. These are the detached musings of a deranged and dangerous old man who is light years from his right mind. And you and I have to live with his collateral damage because he is now also defiantly ignoring the courts.

Donald J. Trump is a madman whose unquenchable and bottomless thirst for power only feeds his undeniable mental illness! The man is trapped in his crippling illusions of grandeur and glory!

This is NOT the time to have a crazy man at the wheel, especially with the prospect war between traditional enemies like India and Pakistan brewing. In a recent interview, former President Biden warned that there was now "...a more grave threat to democracy than at anytime since World War II."

These troubling times call for national leadership that has all of its marbles. It's frightening to see that Donald Trump does not, and cannot, fit that important profile!

Hell no, this commentary has been no fun to write, because our country is at the mercy of a true psychopath who is getting worse every day. The damage being done now not only sets us back generations in terms of social progress made on all fronts, but slowly turns us into this dark, dark kingdom of doom no decent person has ever asked for.

And the worst part of it is, this isn’t Trump by himself. I’m thoroughly convinced that there are fiendish people in his administration, like deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, who are running the Project 2025 playbook through their twisted boss, in order to achieve the kind of wretched, racist America they've always dreamed of.

It’s no joke, folks! You would think the kind of deep, deep trouble we’re in now would have every last church across the fruited plain filled to capacity with folks praying their hearts out for GOD’s forgiveness, direction and mercies. But our churches are empty, and belief in Almighty GOD is now at an all-time low.

We very well may be in New Testament times, my brothers and sisters, because the devil, in my opinion, is truly sitting on the throne today. Indeed, according to the biblical book of Revelation, there will be “cunning influences” to mislead the people; a beast who captivates the world, demanding honor and loyalty; there will be persecution of believers in Christ; massive cataclysmic events the world over; and a beast who will demand that the world take a mark of allegiance.

What I’ve just cited is just the beginning, according to the good book, and for all we know the rule of Trump is, indeed, just a precursor to what is really next to come.

Oh, you think I’m crazy now, just because I’ve cited predictions from GOD’s Word about what it may look like when the devil decides to decisively rear his ugly head.

There’s a reason why we’re now being infected with the profound madness that is Trump, with no remedy in sight.

Check back with me a year from now, and let’s see how crazy I really am!

 If you can!
