Why does N&O want Justice Hudson's opinions kept quiet?

Why does the News & Observer want to hide facts from the voters in an election year?

The paper's editorial board threw a fit over ads highlighting a written opinion by state Supreme Court Justice Robin Hudson.

It's her official ruling from the bench. You can look at it yourself here.

Isn't that what democracy is about? We the People get to see what our elected officials do, and at regular intervals get to affirm what they do, or turn them out of office.

If the people of North Carolina want to return Hudson to the bench, great. If not, that's democracy.

As for the N&O's complaint about big money in politics, it was big money from outside groups that got Hudson elected in the first place.

It's hard to look things up on the N&O's website, but if betting were legal, we'd bet the newspaper was silent when big money gave Hudson her edge when she was first elected. Nor has the paper complained when rich liberals or unions backed liberal candidates.

Money in politics allows the people to find out what their elected officials do. Isn't that a newspaper's job too?
