What backfired?

Done with George III, so no man could get his hands on the power to be king, the Founding Fathers put the ‘Separation of Powers Doctrine’ in the Constitution; for years teachers in classrooms taught students that idea – dividing power between Congress, the courts, the president – is a bedrock beneath our democracy.

And that’s what got Trump in trouble – to get his hands on the power to do what he wanted he rolled rough-shod over that bedrock.

Congress sets spending and taxes. But Trump set a tax – tariffs – by himself.

He sent soldiers to attack a foreign country, Venezuela – growled he didn’t need Congress’ approval…it was up to him.

Marching troops into cities to deport illegal immigrants, scowling said, I’m the president…I can do it.

Trump threw a cornerstone the Founders gave us out the window – and got a surprise. It turns out most Americans still have no use for kings. People who voted for Trump started voting against Republicans. Republicans started losing elections.

Grasping for power backfired.
